Traveling the world can allow you to learn about different cultures and enjoy activities in stunning locations. Although there may be plenty of adventures that are waiting, it doesn’t mean you won’t put yourself at risk. When planning your next trip, there are a few travel destinations that are risky and that you should be aware of as a tourist.

Haiti

As one of the poorest countries in the world, Haiti is a common tourist destination for those who are seeking to help after the devastation that occurred due to an earthquake in 2010. The police are still growing and are often not equipped to manage crimes that occur, which often includes kidnappings.

Mexico

Although Mexico is enjoyed for its beaches and archeological sites, it’s one of the most dangerous places in the world due to the high number of violent crimes that occur each year. The resort areas are considered to be safe, but exploring outside of tourist areas can be dangerous due to drug-related crimes and carjackings. Police corruption is also a problem, making it necessary to steer clear of the destination.

Honduras

From the Maya ruins to the lively culture, there is much to enjoy when visiting Honduras. Unfortunately, the country is also a risky place to explore because it has one of the highest murder rates in the world. If you decide to visit the destination, avoid bringing a lot of cash and also avoid demonstrations.

Egypt

Many people are drawn to Egypt due to its pyramids and picturesque deserts, but the location can be risky for travelers due to the threat of kidnapping and terrorism that is present. Tourists are advised to stay in the Cairo metropolitan area at all times. There’s also the risk of violent protests that can occur due to political instability. If you plan to visit the country, you’ll need to research the laws to avoid putting yourself at risk.

Philippines

The Philippines may be one of the most beautiful countries in the world due to its volcanic mountains and lush beaches, but it is also one of the most dangerous places for tourists. Terrorism is rampant in the area, and tourists have commonly been targeted in the past, specifically Filipino-Americans. Credit card fraud and pickpocketing is also common.
